The only time my centre-line got wound round the prop, I was very
grateful that it had! I had just opened the bottom gates of a wide
lock on the K & A and untied the boat from the lock landing, ready to
step aboard and drive in, when the throttle cable snapped- the boat
took off like a rocket straight into the lock at high speed and would
have crashed into the top cill if the rope which I had been holding
and reluctantly let go when I realised I couldn't stop the boat, went
round the prop and stopped the engine. I managed to get back aboard
via the lock ladder and had to wait to be rescued by the next boat
along, who towed me to Reading Marine.
