I quite agree! Use BOTH hands at all times! - and don't jump across open lockgates- use a boathook. I find this works very well and have not fallen in or had any other horrendous incidents whilst boating alone (and I'm 5ft 2ins and in my mid-fifties!) Anne C NB Serenity
