Depends on the boat - the big Royalty class had larger hulls than the  
Joshers, say. I thought the typical load was in the region of 25 tons  
on the motor and 30 on the butty, but I haven't dug out my Working  
Waterways books to check my memory (which, as we know, is a bit dodgy  
these days).

The Mikron song Hard Working Boater says:

"58 ton and three inches of side
When the missus saw it, she nearly blooming died"

This all assumes a fully dredged canal, of course.
