I'd say about 20-25 tons on the motor and 25-30 on the butty, which is close to Bruce N's figures. It really is a "bit of string" question of course - for example a Josher with its finer lines would be quite a bit less than a big GU, and it would depend on the waterway. We struggled a few years back on the GU/Thames/K&A/Oxford coaling run with 15 & 20 loaded at the start.
