Why should we be forced to use another newsreader, or the way we recieve our
mail just to satisfy one person?

None else does this.

I use Gmane, like a lot of others here to preserve the thread structure.

Why should I be forced to killfile anyone? maybe I might not agree with what
the offending person says, but they may have interesting ideas that I want
to explore. Killfiling the offending person would not stop the offending
person destroying the thread structure and effectively terminating that
thread.

You have not altered the thread structure by "merging two sub threads", you
did this in your reply and did not cut and paste bits from the threaded
structure of the message, including adding the wrong poster attribution.

The offending person has been told why his (and only his) style of posting
destroys threads, but he will not listen and cease doing this.
