These are powerful arguments against my original position, which I
have now abandoned, especially after a long chat with a funny chap on
a bike at Kintbury yesterday (he claimed to have been working by
visiting Crofton's steaming day and taking pictures of it, it's all
right for some...)
In addition, I take the point that suggesting that the waterways lobby
is prepared to contemplate the closure of *any* canals sends entirely
the wrong message to government.
Still don't know how we're going to cope with the next few years,
though.
