About splitting the server provisioning from the Capistrano deployment: yes, you are right - this definitely needs to be split. I'm currently working on the simplest possible Chef cookbook that I can use on the screencast. This might seem like reinventing the wheel, but actually I couldn't find the appropriate Chef cookbook for rails that doesn't presume *the deployment* will also be done with Chef. Anyway, once again thanks for the encouragement, and I hope to have something to show in the next couple weeks.
