KB> Hello

>> I know your Telepath Project that starts 1995 from the University

KB> OK, iPath is a completely new project. The version from 1995 was
KB> proprietary and closed in by a company. I actually started my work in
KB> Basel in 1999 with the mission to get that project going again. However,
KB> we decided to start a new and produce a completely new and open source

Give me the mail and! phone contact of the University responsibility
persons and the page will be updatet in one week I hope.

So if it was proprietary before it was a good decition to redesign it
from scratch. No further SCO please inside Care2x :-).

>> I was not aware about this project at SF. Sorry but possibly highly

KB> I was thinking about that, too. But it would need some careful planning
KB> first.

KB> What are your ideas of integrating ipath into care2x? I am not sure if
KB> we are thinking of the same.

To be independant for other projects i started planing care2x-plugins.
So here there can be develope code. Care2x can work global. You use
also C++ in your project for example.

If you plan a debian package for iPath. With apt-get its easy to
install if the care2x server is a linux debian. If its a Windows
server its your responsibility to offer it or not. So a time i think
other projects like also to connect. So we can find at plugins first
different ways to integrate other projects. After a while we find
common ways to communicate with other projects. There are a lots of
GPL based projects for medical use.

If we have some connection the admin in a medical center can say. Ok i
need this and this. He pick up the different things. Can arrange that
for a pathology Doctor he needs not to see in his personal workframe
the billing. So he can concentrate only to his work.

Just a basic idea thats needs to be sorted out.

KB> I was planning to have some sort of inter-server connectivity in iPath
KB> (xmlrpc) which would allow referrals to (virtual) specialist groups.
KB> Ideally such a referral could be initiated simply from your hospital
KB> system (care2x).

Or to make an initial step :-) in the plugins... So Elpidio have more
time to concentrate to basics. Others do the same, share the code and
better ways can be found for a stable Care2x Version.

xmlrpc - based at hl7 or own? How many think of connecting to care2x
hl7 is one way... but if we find a second own way in collaboration
than proprietary can use hl7. Or others can make their connection with
the things that also integrated. At least the little flame with me and
Antas gives us the result to go both ways. No comments at this point
please. only for thinking. :-)

KB> iPath is sepcilised in enabling collaboration of a group of specialists.
KB> It is currently used for some "virtual pathology department" servicing
KB> e.g. hospitals in Solomon Islands, Cambodia etc ....

But if they have the chance to integrate their work easy in a hospital
or at least family doctors patient data sheet it is a big improvement
for all.

KB> The reasond for having to have this on a seperated server is usually
KB> security/firewalls. So, ideally, you could refer from care2x to iPath
KB> without revealing the identity of the patient, while still ensure that
KB> comments and diagnosis can be traced back to that very patient.

See my comment before.

KB> At FOSSFA, we are actually thinking of including some additional
KB> services into care2x:
KB> - telemed referrals
KB> - virtual libraries (access to pubmed, etc)
KB> The idea would be that a number of hospitals equiped with care2x
KB> integrate into a network (maybe even including national DoHs)

Since October i am in talk with PLOS for collaboration.
Susanne DeRisi:
Thank you for your letter. We are in the process of setting up both XML
download of every article, as well as an RSS feed. If you would like,
I can send you a notice when it is completed,
probably within the next couple of weeks.

http://care2x.de/headlines/

I discussed it with elpidio. To complete the care2x intranet
applications. PLOS Medicine is short before start. Read the Text of
Barbara Cohen.

We discuss it to include to the Care2x Knoppix CD. Not everywhere is
Internet.

KB> Any suggestions in this direction are very welcome!

I like your ideas :-)

>> Supporting yes, but not do this work like packaging, keeping a view to
>> every update and security of third parties and so on... looking
>> through every file of all these projects is not possible.

KB> OK, true. Maybe I was a bit too naive here. But let's see how care2x is
KB> developing here in Africa ... maybe we'll be able to do it in our team
KB> at FOSSFA.

Etienne is working with Kongo - they have similar ideas. FOSSA is
interesting what kind of connection you have there

KB> regards
