It is very simple. I only use a very small subset of HXP. Basically we do this:
an external application which is generating images must store these images to the patient folder on a central database (an iPath server). For this it needs: 1) authentication 2) retrieve short info about patient to make sure it is the right one 3) post image data to the client folder Image are generated from different sources (scanner, webcam, video from microscope, screenshots in regular interval). I decided to play with HXP because it is simple, robust, multi language and I did not want to invent my own thing. The idea was that later these external clients could be extended to add additional data, but that has not been necessary so far. But you could basically use some of these tools to send images to care2x also. Besides, i extended the protocol, because I wanted to remote control microscopes, so I also use HXP to send status of a microscope and control commands for a microscope.
