I thought I was the only one :)  I was/am in a situation almost identical to 
what Andrew described, I am not a developer

Aaron, Andrew, Chris:  we hear you.  Loud and clear.  I'm going to do
my best to shepherd these concerns into two substantial results:

  1. Improved documentation
  2. Alternate deployment strategy targeted at sysadmins

Deployment is not the only dark spot here. Upgrading and configuration is as well, so keep those in mind as well if you're going to change CAS deployment to make it more sysadm friendly.
