I might add, that once you get your tank clean, recycle the water 3-4 times per year, or more.  That really seems to help keep the odors away.  Drain the tank down to empty and refill it.  When we come home from a cruise, on the last leg we pump out the remaining water into the bilge to rinse out the shower water.  Although our water smells and taste OK, we always fill a couple of one gallons containers for coffee and cooking that we know is good.  We keep a 5 gallon water bladder under the V-berth for emergencies.
