catalina27-talk: mast step

Hello, I,m getting ready to put the mast up on my 1975 C-27 for the first time 
and noticed there are 4 holes in the bottom of the mast and in the cabin top 
mast base, however there are no connectors to be found. What do I use? pins? 
screws? any help with this would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.
