I finally got around to changing my 20 year old lifelines. When I removed the old ones, the threaded end at the turnbuckle snapped in my hand with only slight pressure on the lock nut. Definitely over due.
On my boat, the original lifelines ran to the base of the bow pulpit. This made room for a deck sweeper head sail, but made going forward less than secure. I installed 4 pulpit anchors on the pulpit (WM model 114785 @ $10.79ea) to make the lifelines run parallel to the deck front to rear. Since our bimini stays up year round, we never use the gates at the cockpit. My new lifelines are one continuous run from the stern rail to the pulpit. The old pelican hooks will not fit the pulpit anchors, so I purchased WM model 543132 pelican hooks. Since we dock bow first, having pelican hooks on the front end makes getting on/off the boat much easier.
I bought one 5/16" shroud cover and
cut off 6 pieces 3 inches long. I placed these on the lifelines where they go through the stanchions to illuminate chaff.
