Ralph,

I'm going to conclude mine is long enough to get you thinking but not long
enough to really get you cranky. The left column is there for the obvious
reasons, the boat name is there so everyone can tumble indirectly I'm a C270
owner (not a C27 owner), but the last three reflect my mostly unspoken
awareness initiative.

They are a reminders that 1) VHF not you cell phone is the primary tool for
emergency communication on your boat. 2) Everyone sailing outside of small
lakes should have by now upgraded to a VHF radio with Digital Selective
Calling. 3) The DSC VHF radio should be registered (MMSI) and directly
interfaced to a GPS. If anyone disagrees - please change the subject line
and start that thread, I'd be glad to play.

But my reason for chipping in here is that Outlook (the program I use for
mail) can create and store several mail signatures. Using Outlook if I right
click over my signature block I can instantly select a tailored email
signature (see below). I wouldn't be at all surprised if other program had
similar features. If it's appropriate for your profession to include a long
signature make it your default so it's always included until you change it.
Then you just have to make and effort to grab the correct signature for
other activities.

I'm 75,

A Dues Paying Curmudgeon..

A Cranky old SOB,

A Party Pooper

A Spoil sport

Etc.....

So... I'm going to Pee off any number of Members of this List.

What's with this Trend of using those Long, Involved...

Personal/Business Email Signatures ?

It really is a bit too much !

You know the kind. ... Name, Address, Important Titles, Job Position, Self
appointed Honors, Several phone numbers, FAX number, the Blog site, The Web
page. The company name, Name of the dog, How many operation scars,

And so on, and so on..

Egos showing ??? ..

OK, I know that it can be an automatic feature that pops up on all emails
sent..

But.. A quick Cut and Delete (or maybe another email account?) would reduce
those heavy weighted bottom lines (and the all too obvious
<http://www.answers.com/topic/self-aggrandizement> self-aggrandizement )

Wouldn't it be nice to JUST have a ... Name, Location and the Boat's Name ?

OK , I'll even settle for a SHORT quote from some Philosopher,,

But, Please, Could we reduce the size of those overwhelming "BILLBOARDS" ?
