Yesterday I noticed that my 1985 C27 bow mooring cleats are loose. I
checked another 27 on the dock and found them be loose too. So I am
guessing that this is a common problem that has been fixed many times.

Looking in Catalina Direct, I find replacement cleats and the
description comment "This might be a good time to fashion a backing
plate to add strength in addition to Catalina's original flat washers."

So I am guessing that I need to do a little work on this.

What have others done?

How hard is it to remove the inside paneling which covers the anchor
locker? And is removing that panel the proper access to the cleats? What
did you use for backing plates?

Has any one added a top plate, between the cleat and deck, to increase
the top footprint?
