On my 86 model, the PO has installed a Beckson deck plate in the anchor well on
the starboard side. When the port side cleat got loose, I thought I could just
access it from below. I tried all sorts of sockets, extentions and swivels
with no luck. I bit the bullet and installed another deck plate in the well.
Not much room in there for a backing plate, but the glass is thick and of
course no core. I just used washers.
