John, I was thinking about how your masthead could have come to be modified. I'd check your halyard diameter before you get started. It's a common myth that increasing the size of the line makes it easier on the crew and someone may have changed the sheave to fit a larger line.
Larger diameter line, which does help spread a given load on your hands, takes more force to bend around pulleys and therefore increases rather than reduces crew fatigue. So upping the line is usually a bad trade off. Catalina Direct had a C27 divider plate in stock. I ordered the plate and three of the plastic sheaves. The new plastic sheaves are made with UV stabilized black Delrin and has a center bushing for long life. I am sure that these will do fine for this cruising sailer. I have decided to lower the mast with the A-frame technique that I can find several links to on the WWW. John
