Thank you all. As always your input is much appreciated.
There seems to be a LOT of sailors who sail "Jib only" very often. Here in Port
Power boats outnumber sail about 4 or 5 to 1. Great fishing area. So sailors
and / or sailing info is somewhat limited.
Thanks again

I did it yesterday for the first time (Sail Genny only). It was blowing about
10-12 and dying. The boat was nicely balanced upwind (135% sail). Downwind felt
kind of slow, but OK. It was certainly a lot quicker to get in and out than
using the main. The only downside ( in those conditions) is than it is more
involved to tack the headsail than the main.

I do the same, for the same reason. Good Old Boat had an article about the
virtues of Genoa only sailing a few months ago too, that made me feel even more
like it was ok every so often. There is a leisurely factor that makes it very
attractive on a feisty day when you want to go out without an adrenalin fix.
For me anyway.... If the boat moves ok with the wind at hand, then I agree, go
for it.

onlyListees,Do any of you sail without the Main, Genoa only ?I'm retired, live
6 blocks from my slip, sail single hand 5-6 times a week. Sometimes just a few
hours twice a day. I've fallen into the habit of going out withoutunpacking the
main. Sail jib only. Warm up the diesel, disconnect shore power, cast off
mooring lines, back out and head for the gate---maybe 5 minutes.Coming in--5 to
10 minutes to batten down and head for home. When I use the Main it's 45 minutes
to go out and 45 minutes to batten down.I haven't sailed the Main for 2 months.
I feel like I'm cheating or something.Next time I'm GOING to sail the Main--for
sure--and I don't.Wondering if I am the only one that doe this. I never notice
anyone else out with the jib only. ???Pat FordSeabiscuit 3692Port Washington, WI
