Dave,

I purchased my Dimension-Polyant Pentex 13 Flex - 155% RFG
http://www.dimension-polyant.com/e_docs/home/home_fr.htm from Kent for
$1514.00. This was only about $400.00 more than the Dacron sail I purchased
2 years ago. I also bought a furling sock because I didn't want to go with
a Sunbrella luff. ( my marina has no area to fold a sail).

There are also other fabric companies out there, Bainbridge or Contender,
that offer similar Load Path fabric that allows slab cut sails at a much
reduced cost. You can check out the various web pages and see how many race
boats are going this route with great success. It sure helped me this past
year as I took first in the very competitive GLYC Falls Series JAM class.
This fleet included a couple of J120's, a Beneteau 40.7 and a C&C 120. I
hear the rumblings from these "big guys" every time I see them. And I love
it!!!

Sure, you can spend more money if you want. But I think that Kent makes a
great racing sail at a decent price. And I don't feel guilty about not
having the crew or the sailing ability to sail up to these sails.

There is an effort to have a Catalina 27 start in the Detroit 2008 NOOD's,
would you be willing to make the trip down????

  Cary,

I am in Bay City currently nursing an old tape rive around the course.
Could you give me a ball park figure on the cost of the 155 thru Kent. I
know they build good sails, my main competitor is a Grampian 26 who uses
them anddoes a good job.

  Thanks,

I too have Kent Sails. This past season I had a Pentex 155% RFG and an
asymmetrical spinnaker made by them. Could not be happier with both.
With
the new high tech sail cloth out there are affordable ways to build
effective race sails. Give them a shout, ask for Tom.

As I mentioned before, you get much better customer service from your
local
sail lofts. Not to mention good winter discounts. We are lucky to have
Kent and others here in SE Michigan. From past experience I am leery of
some of the internet sail lofts. You need to order early to get your
sail
on a boat from Thailand, and then you better hope it is cut the way you
want. Be careful of Sails East. Others have Catalina 27 sails off the
    shelf.

Mine are made by a local sail maker, Kent. I've been told they are good
sails, but have zero experience beyond that.
