Oh, by the way, I use a window A/C on the cockpit sole. It does the job
when I am in port.

go for it....I have a microwave and many more 110V appliances that run off
my inverter (A Heart 1500 watt inverter/charger monitored by a Link 2000). I
have three Simens solar cells, and an Amp air wind generator charging 6-6
volt Trojan batteries. The alternator on the outboard also charges the
batteries, but I run it when I operate the freezer compressor when I chill the
holding plate in the old ice chest. The Norcold refrigerator runs off 12V
when I
am off the grid. I have a voltage regulator controlling the solar cell power
distribution such that when it senses the batteries are fully charged it
shunts the output of the solar cells to the water heater's 12V element.

Why A/C. Ralph, this ain't the Pacific Northwest...We have heat, humidity

I know running an A/C off an inverter is a pipe dream...but..."I HAVE A

Actually, I would like to run a coffee maker, a small m'wave and some other
small stuff.

Mark,

Are you thinking you want AC on board ? What do you need AC for ?
The inverter would simply convert your Battery 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC.
It's a bit of a extravagance for a small boat like ours . In my humble
opinion.
But.....Some folks have AC appliances like Microwaves, Ice boxes.. etc...
I have a cheap small 150 watt portable inverter to run my laptop Power
Supply...That's all I need.
There are some who might have issues with the AC output waveform ,on cheaper
inverters, causing problems for some AC gadgets but I've not experienced it.

Speaking of batteries...I'm thinking of installing a 2000w inverter. I have
2 "group 27" batteries charged by a small solar panel and the running of the
engine (we have no elect on the dock, hence the need for the inverter).
Any thoughts, experiences and/or advice.
