Couldn't get my electric start to start. Batteries went down far too easily. My engine mech said to switch from (well, you know the name of the boat store)'s batteries. to Interstate. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Electric start works even if the boat's been sitting there for a month. Battteries keep their charge over that period. I use small solar chargers to top off my batteries. But I haven't needed them all winter, first time in six years.

My mech, by the way, comes to my boat to fix the engine. Does a good job. I'll share his name if anyone wants it. Obviously, I'm at the computer right now, and the name is way upstairs.

My last year sailing: for 35 years, and 75 years old. Transfer payout annuity all used up. Time to quit. Phoenix will be up for sale. I told the guy who offered me 2000 that he was confused: he was looking for a different kind of boat than mine, one with blisters on the bottom, a bad engine, outdated running and standiing rigging, No VHF or GPS, cheap tiller steerer, no ladder, no spin gear, partnered keel bolts, etc, etc. My boat had been standing unpumped for two months of rainy season: a half inch of water in the bilge. The engine is a 97 Evinrude, with deficits and credits appropriate to it, ie, two cycle.Starts easy, abit noisy like all two cycles, And only three moving parts; really reliable.

I'm looking to sail it this season, then gone. Sailing lessons to nice person/people who need it (Yes, I am a certified US Sailing instructor.) (Some guy said, "They'll certify anybody". maybe.
Rudy B., once again.

Got one. It's noisy and only runs for 4 hours.
I am also thinking about adding another battery.
My 2 existing 27's becoming 1 bank and a 4D for bank 2.
I'm a pretty good sailor and can talk foils, sails and deck layout with the best of 'em but this is my first "cruising" boat. For 40 some odd years the only thing I wanted out of my electrical system was to keep the sailing instruments running 'till the end of the race and I could give a flip less about the rest. I'm treading one some new territory here....It's like....Wadda ya mean the battery won't do that!

Why A/C. Ralph, this ain't the Pacific Northwest...We have heat,
    humidity and BUGS!

I know running an A/C off an inverter is a pipe dream...but..."I
    HAVE A DREAM!"

Actually, I would like to run a coffee maker, a small m'wave and
    some other small stuff.

After all Gratis is my "condo" in New Orleans.

        Mark,

Are you thinking you want AC on board ? What do you need AC
for ?
The inverter would simply convert your Battery 12 volt DC to
        120 volt AC.

It's a bit of a extravagance for a small boat like ours . In
        my humble opinion.

But.....Some folks have AC appliances like Microwaves, Ice
        boxes.. etc...

I have a cheap small 150 watt portable inverter to run my
laptop Power Supply...That's all I need.

There are some who might have issues with the AC output
waveform ,on cheaper inverters, causing problems for some AC
gadgets but I've not experienced it.

        UW,

Speaking of batteries...I'm thinking of installing a 2000w
inverter. I have 2 "group 27" batteries charged by a
small solar panel and the running of the engine (we have
no elect on the dock, hence the need for the inverter).

            Any thoughts, experiences and/or advice.
