FWIW:

Just (last week) replaced Jib halyard with 3/8 Sta-set(sp?). Tied a bowline to the shackle & went sailing. This rope had a test strength of something like 4000+ lbs. Since I have a self Furler, I don't use the halyard much. I'll put a splice in it when I get a spare minute. The cable that was on it just split and fell onto the deck one day AFTER I was up on the mast anyway. The 3/8 rope will fit, but the aft sheeve top clearance is kinda small, so I had to kind of shove it through using a screwdriver until I could grab it with my hand. The rope was $.94 per foot, and I bought 75 feet to make sure I had more than enough. It works just fine, and after it stretches, it will not be a problem.
