Well . . .

The waves were more like 2-3' (there was no swell) and it dropped a to 2 or
less as the wind steadied out at 12-15 for most of the night and the nearly
full moon rose.? It was an absolutely GEORGEOUS evening.? We could see
everything and everyone.?We finished at 7am, with a decent breeze the whole
way.? For a 45 mile race that's better than 4 knots average made good to
windward, not bad in a 27' clorox bottle.

As for doing the sail on the 27, a few sharp corners is the only complaint.? No
it's not a 40' cocktail launch, nor a 43' sailing patio.? But it's great fun to
sail, and we'll be playing at Screwpile (1 of 3 C-27's) by racing?every day in
a fleet of 14 where we have the highest rating.? Actually talked to guy in
Solomons today doing non-spin because he can't beat a well sailed 27.?

Oh yeah, we'll be at the parties too.

We race here in Annapolis and unless there are consistent 18+ winds we rarely
START with less than a 150.? All the power comes from the headsail in these
boats.? We can basically dump the main and over trim the jib and sail
consistently to and above hull speed.

?

We still get knocked?down occasionally and sometimes we are getting pushed
sideways in a blow, but the boat is always fast.

?

Just back from the start of the Annapolis to Solomons race.? Personally I hate
this race (40+ miles?overnight and it almost always blows like hell or?there is
no wind).? Tonight it was?blowing 13-20 at Thomas Point?from about?5-10 pm.?
And the wind was right on the nose, nasty 3-4 foot swell also right on the
nose.? So those poor folks on C27's will be on the rail all night in decent
chop.? They will be really luck to finish by sunup.

?

?

By contrast we went out with a friend that works for Hinckley on the Talaria 40
and watched the starts.? Her husband and our good friend Julian Richards had
gotten a ride on a TP52 for the race.?

?

We are planning on going to down to Solomons on Sunday on a Juneau 43DS to play
at Screwpile for a few days.? Probably hook up for a ride or 2 during the
regatta or just hang at the pool and play at the parties after.
