The key is dumped not dropped, ie the main is still up and pulling when not
overpowering the boat.

When sailing with both sails pulling the boat begins to be overpowered
(tiller in the chest) you simply ease out the main (sheet or traveler depending
 on
the conditions) and the boat continues on the course you were on previously
(within a few degrees). You bring the main back in to the point where the
driver isn't fighting it anymore. If it is pulling great, if not speed and
angle don't suffer that much at all.

The foresail really powers this boat and the main helps in pointing but is
not critical. Again the slot still exists it is just a bit sloppy.

As for #'s I will try to take some notes on Wednesday but I really sail by
fell and tell tales and don't have (actually I do have a Tack Tick but I rarely
use it) any real instruments. I find they just distract me. Wednesdays I
am just trimming so I can probably watch the Tack Tick and get some better
readings on heading and figure out tacking angles. I just know that I want to
be higher than the guy next to me.
