Bob,

I'm a take it down, work on it, and put back up kind of guy. That said there
are times when you have no choice but to go up. I went with a mast ladder.
It requires that you can hoist it in the mainsail track but once you get
started it fairly straight forward. I run a safety harness with it to a
second halyard tailed to a winch and managed by someone who won't screw off.

My brother went the ascender root after watch the easy at which they worked
for the skipper on the next boat over. It turned out they didn't work well
for him or me for that matter. I think it's something you want to try for
yourself. I think he picked up a mast ladder before heading for Mexico.

Just as a side note, when we lost a halyard to the top on Wing Tip one day I
assembled a hook out of copper ground wire, PVC pipe, and duct tape from a
local Home Depot and had her back down in no time.

Subject: catalina27-talk: recalled bosun's chair

My bosuns chair was recalled through West Marine. They didn't have any
others in stock at the time. So, suggestions on alternatives from others?
What about ascenders (or whatever they're called)?
