I upgraded from the original curved cabin top traveler with 3:1 purchase on the
control lines to the Garhauer that you see on Catalina Direct. It is flat, has
5:1 purchase and is a beautiful piece of equipment, I’m very happy with it. If
I would do it again, I would go direct to Garhauer. This is a custom made
piece of equipment so they need the distance between the cabin top handrails.
Installation wasn’t particularly complicated, just took a little while. A lot
of holes to drill, 6 on each side. Your situation is different than mine. You
can keep the original setup until the new one is installed. I’m sure you are
aware that three bails are required on the boom to handle the main sheet load.
It can’t handle single point loading in the center of the boom.
The only issue I had was that several of the 5/16 in. machine screws that bolt
the horizontal member to the supports galled when I tightened or loosened
them. Recommend you run a die over them before installing and tightening.
I can send a picture if you are interested.

Subject: catalina27-talk: Traveler upgrade
Greetings to all and a question:
Has anyone upgraded thier old-style rear-cockpit traveler to a mid-boom or
hatchtop traveler? I'm sure the question has been asked before, but I could
not find a good thread to refer to. Catalinadirect.com has what appears to be
an upgrade kit (~$600) but I cant find anyone out there vouching for it as a
replacement for the cockpit traveler.
Thanks ! After getting hammered by this listserver I'm finally going to use it
for a q ! :-D
