Several things..

1. You can slip it up close and personal to the clew..(don't be mislead by the long Bitter End in the photo, it can be very compact and short) 2. You can Tie it while standing behind the clew..( Unless one is Very Expert in knot tying, You have to turn backwards) 3. Most folks tie a Bowline with a BIG loop ..(that Loop and know attached wraps around the shroud.. A small hitch is more likely to pop over it) 4. The Bowline is very insecure ( No matter what salty types say,, The bowline was designed for Hemp ..Not for Man Made fiber.. I believe Climbers would never use a Bowline)
