Greetings: This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week on April 01, 
2019




Highlights:

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)

     4/1: A ROSS’S GOOSE was seen from East Road.

     4/5: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen from East Road

     4/6: An apparent SECGE WREN was heard at Carncross Road. It was heard 
again and sighted briefly on the 7th.

     4/7: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen from East Road. 7 SANDHILL CRANES were 
seen at South Spring Pool. A GLOSSY IBIS was seen at Carncross Road and was 
relocated the next day.







Derby Hill Bird Observatory 

------------




     A big week for Derby but most of the birds were TURKEY VULTURES. 9,138 
raptors were counted in all. Highlights were 3 GOLDEN EAGLES and 1 NORTHERN 
GOSHAWK. Other highlights were COMMON REDPOLLS, SANDHILL CRANES, ROSS’S GOOSE 
and VESPER SPARROW.







Oswego County

------------




     4/2: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen on Nine Mile Point Road in the Town 
of Scriba. A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Kale Ontario from Noyes Sanctuary in 
Scriba.







Onondaga County

------------




     4/2: A SANDHILL CRANE was seen on Pompey Center Road. A SNOWY OWL was seen 
near Great Northern Mall on Rt. 31. It was seen again in that location on 4/7.

     4/4: A SANDHILL CRANE was seen in flight at Sunview Drive in Elbridge.

     4/6: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the Gerber Topsoil Farm in Kirkville. A 
PEREGRINE FALCON was seen near Onondaga Lake Park.







Madison County

------------




     EVENING GROSBEAKS continue at feeders on Carpenter Road in Sheds and Eden 
Hollow Road near Erieville.

     4/2: 2 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen on Woodman Pond near Hamilton.







Oneida county

------------




     4/5: EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Forestport.

     4/6: EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen near Woodgate. A PEREGRINE FALCON was 
seen at the Adirondak Bank in Utica, a known breeding site.

     4/7: A RED-NECKED GREBE and 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen at the Utica 
Marsh.







Herkimer county

------------




     EVENING GROSBEAKS and PINE SISKINS continue at a feeder on Military Road 
north of Dolgeville.
