I would lean towards it being an issue with a missing or misconfigured
virtual link.

 

R7 is a border router touching 2 areas, but not directly connected to area
0.  Configuring a virtual link across area 30 should allow the routes to
pass.

 

Whether or not a router is the DR for a segment doesn't matter.  R5 would
still be able to exchange route information with the DR, if R5 had the
information locally.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] lab 23

 

Just finished with the OSPF configuration in lab 23 but I've noticed that
networks in areas 10 & 30 are not seen by other area routers (chiefly,
routers 2/4/5/6 that makeup area 0). My suspicion is that the problem stems
from both areas 10 & 30 peering with r5, which is not the DR (nor ever will
be) for the area 0 frame cloud. 

 

Can anyone shed some light on this?
