Taking it even a step further, the more ideal solution is usually to adjust
the weight of the static route to only kick in when the "primary" route is
removed from the routing table via the routing protocol and leave the admin
distance of the routing protocol as is.

*ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.1.1.1 250 <-- the distance can be set to
whatever desired of course, to fit inside the routing environment as needed*
