That is correct, 136.10.4.4/32 is originated by a different rotuer and yes your
explaination is consistent with what I am seeing. No mention of this in the
command reference guide and can't think of an explanation why this should be
the case, but it seems to be. Would be nice to understand why.

That means that if a task states to prefer on router A routes from Router B
in a scenario where we have three OSPF routers on a LAN, routers A, B and C
with routers B and C being the WAN routers, it cannot be solved with the admin
distance. I need to think about if it can be solved differently.

Btw, this is part of ipexpert task 6.3 lab 17 volume 2 and the DSG shows the
distance command as solution, it does not show the verification of the task.

Looks at your OSPF database. 136.10.4.4/32 I bet this route is not originated
from this router your pointing to. I believe this command will only effect
routes originated from 136.10.5.5

I can lab this latter tonight if your still having trouble.

Thanks Edwarad, very good articles. I am not trying to filter prefixes, I am
trying to prefer a path by use of admin distance (I know we can use admin
distance to filter).
So if I apply the distance command under the router process
Cat2#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Cat2(config)#router ospf 1
Cat2(config-router)#distance 109 136.10.5.5 0.0.0.0
Cat2(config-router)#do sh ip route ospf
136.10.0.0/16 is variably subnetted, 19 subnets, 6 masks
O IA 136.10.6.6/32 [110/2] via 136.10.56.6, 00:00:12, Vlan56
O IA 136.10.5.5/32 [109/2] via 136.10.56.5, 00:00:12, Vlan56
O IA 136.10.4.4/32 [110/130] via 136.10.56.6, 00:00:12, Vlan56
                      [110/130] via 136.10.56.5, 00:00:12, Vlan56

Note that the admin distance of 136.10.5.5/32 has changed but he admin distance
for 136.10.4.4/32 has not. That's what I am struggling with.
