Correct.  When dealing with MPLS VPNs and BGP peerings, in most cases you
will always need vpnv4 address families to exchange the VPN routes.  In the
case of that lab, your IGP is OSPF so the internal routes are exchanged with
OSPF, but if the IGP were BGP, then you would need a way to exchange
internal routing information with the rest of the internal network.  For
that lab, VPNV4 peerings will suffice.
