The configuration of significant digits are only applicable to inbound calls. It tells the voice gateway / trunk how many digits should be sent to CM for analyzing. For example, if your PSTN is sending 10 digits inward to your voice gateway and you are using only 4 digits to ring an extension, then you should configure your inbound voice gateway to send only 4 digits (significant digits). The configuration of significant digits does not have anything to do with outbound calls. Thus, you only find it under the inbound section of your voice gateway or trunk. As for the sequence of digits analysis, it's a complex process. The call routing subsystem of CM has 3 primary responsibilities: 1. Determine which endpoint CM should ring based on the digits it collects 2. Perform address translation 3. Support individualized routing. There is a complex working of matching patterns and rules for each task above. Needless to say, it's a complex system. I would advise you check out the book title "Cisco CallManager Fundamentals, 2nd Ed.". It's a very good technical book to have. It talks in depth about the inner working of CM. JD
