All I ever do when I start is the following config on
the HQ Router and 6500:

HQ
int f0/0.2X0
 encapsulation dot1q 2x0
 ip address 10.x.200.3 255.255.255.0
!
int f0/0
 no shut

6500
set trunk x/y on dot1q

That's it, never had an issue with native vlans as 1
is normally chosen.  If the lab requires the data vlan
I just add the sub-interface on the HQ router, no
changes needed on the 6500 as I allow all trunks.  May
not be "ideal" in real world applications but it's
fast and easy to setup.
