Dial boxes: I wish someone would build & sell a USB dial box. It's so
<CENSORED> obvious. The technology is very simple: 8 rotary optical
counters in a box with a USB microprocessor. Design it well and you
wouldn't even need a separate power cord, you could power it off the USB
bus. The biggest impediment is probably the small market.

Forget about dialboxes, buy a Powermate! They are wonderful little things, cost ~50 Euros, works with OSX, Linux and Windows. We have a bunch of them on the Linux workstations, for use with O. We use evrouter to pick up the events from the Powermate and map the events for O. We have configured evrouter so the scrollwheel on the mouse changes the Powermate function. I'll go back to a %&?+$!! dialbox!
