I had a similar problem, but my writing died much earlier in the process
than yours does.
Once again, I fixed it by moving the CD-recorder to a seperate IDE chain
from the source of the burn data. Maybe the newer cdrecord got touchier
because all I had changed was upgrade from RH 6.2 to Mandrake 7.2 myself.
