I think that you are missing something.  Kerry spent too much of his time
riding on the Vietnam bus, trying to fight Dem's weak on defense tactic.
Frankly, no I've talked to really cares what either did 30 years ago.  He is
consistently letting Bush set the agenda, and if he can't start leading rather
than following, then Bush will win.

For example, I read the NY Times article that Sandy circulated.  Kerry needs
to articulate what he is for and against, besides Bush.  If he believes that
large weapons systems are a waste of funds, especially in today's terrorist
environment, he should articulate that.  And if his voting record supports
this as a consistent view, he should point that out as well.  He should
challenge Bush with a vision for the military of the future.  Same on the
other major issues that we are wrestling with.
