A regular joe would have been on the front lines in Vietnam. A regular
joe doesn't have that kind of net worth. That was where I was going
with that.

To be fair, I do think that Bush is pretty close to the way he
presents himself. He isn't smart enough to maintain an elaborate mask.
But the bit about rolling his shirtsleeves up and appearing on the
cover of Time... that's careful handling, too.
Personally I think that W is above all a product.

He certainly seems comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, and out of
place in a tie behind a pulpit....much like you'd think a regular joe
would be.
