Kerry's point (though, as Saletan put it, Machiavellian) wasn't some
horrible outing or shame of the Cheneys. What's interesting is the "I'm
shocked! Shocked, I say!" attitude of conservatives who have no problem
questioning the morality of Kerry's mentioning the name of a lesbian in
the debate, but don't seem to have a problem with the morality of an
administration that actually wants to alter the Constitution of the
United States to specifically deny certain rights to its own citizens.
