I forgot where (Discover?), but there are scientists that have
recently made the first artificial life.  They put some basic "pieces"
of stuff easily found wandering around the universe into some seawater
and those pieces assembled into rudimentary life.  Not only that, but
they began to evolve into more complex forms.

This would mean that you have a starting point for the creation of
life from random molecules and a proven upward trajectory for
evolution.  Combining that with the current data that can extrapolate
life backwards you've got a fairly good chance of connecting the 2
vectors.

That's not to say that God didn't create the universe and, therefore,
evolution.  It is to say, however, that evolution is not a theory, but
a verified fact.  A fact that can create life from random stuff
floating around in space.
