He said he was ordered into combat with certain equipment and methods that, in retrospect, he considered war crimes. I don't consider war crimes a "good thing" I consider the fact that when he returned (or earlier) he realized what he was doing was wrong and chose to speak out a good thing. The problem I have with all of this is that in the fog of war what's not a war crime? Obviously you can point out the huge systemic problems like Mai Lai or Abu GrabA** but overall stuff happens.
