You're right, there is a difference, absolutely.

But why give Kerry a free pass? Saying "well, his mistake was different" is
a deflecting argument.

This is what bugs me about partisanship. The inability admit faults or
mistakes, even when they are blatanlty obvious to independents.  I mean, if
Kerry committed atrocities, "i was just following orders" doesn't make it
right. Apologizing for them later doesn't make things all better.

On the flip side, Bush apologizing for his foreign policy in Iraq (which he
obviously won't do) doesn't make it any better either. I intend to hold him
to his mistakes...apology or not.
