Kerry was oppsoed to gay marraiges but he favored civil union. He beleived that, for instance, if I was gay and had a boyfriend and he was in the hospital I should be able to visit him as "family" and we should also be able to seek certain taxes benifits as traditional married couples. Kerry did exactly what Bush is unable to do, look past his beleifs and decided on a policy that would benifit his constituents. Disallowing civil unions helps no one b/c at the end of the day those 2 guys might be filing seperately and not bound by law but they're still fuckin each night.
