But the issue is gay MARRIAGE. It's my understanding that same sex civil unions are already allowed in most states, granting partners the rights of a married couple, without necessarily invoking the institution of "marriage".
Is this not true? The argument then becomes....well, why must we settle for "civil union", we want to be officially "married". So I think you have a lot of people out there who may be against gay marriage, yet are all for civil unions. I thought this was Bush's stance as well?
