I don't think you can truly be "happy" until you are happy with yourself,
when you've accepted yourself, and are confident in who you are. When you
learn at an early age to derive your happiness from the acceptance and
attention of OTHERS, and then all of a sudden that acceptance and attention
disappears.....you are left feeling hollow and unhappy. Since you've never
learned to derive happiness from within, you look for other external
sources.....often times drugs and/or alcohol. These too are false...and the
cycle continues.
