So, consider the following quote from

http://www.boston.com/news/local/maine/articles/2004/12/27/settlement_reached_in_strip_search_lawsuit_against_york_county_jail/

The agreement stipulates that women members of the suit will get
double the payout as men because previous jury verdicts have generally
given higher awards to women because of the perception that strip
searches are more intrusive and humiliating for them than for men. The
plaintiff's attorneys are seeking 30 percent of the settlement fund,
or $990,000.

I was wondering what folks thoughts are on the fairness of this. I
find this especially interesting in light of the earlier issue this
week with the professor who basically said women were not going as far
in science because of genetics.

This seems to be a bit two faced. It is wrong to say women do not have
the same potential for science (and I certainly agree with that), but
it is ok to say that a strip search hurts women more than men and
therefore they need more money?

Or am I crazy? ;) I'm defintely curious to see if anyone supports
this, and why.
