My parents and I feel the same way. Now, don't get me wrong. As an adult male and a bit of a pyro, I love watching the hero Blow Shit Up (tm).
However, my parents will generally let my 15yr old sister see a movie rated R for non-casual sex or tasteful nudity, but not for violence, gore, etc. To me, this makes perfect sense. After all, most of us are probably going to have sex at some point, but (hopefully) most of us aren't going to take part in violent, gory murders.
