They did not have the evidence.

The Jury decided that they could not send a man to jail based on a
public media circus that gathered around him, or because the public
decided he was strange and therefore guilty.

Being strange, behaving oddly, and perhaps being removed from reality
is not enough grounds to convict someone and send them to jail. 'He
fits the profile' is not enough, thank god, to send someone to jail.

Sleeping with children is not a crime, perhaps if it were Angelina
Jolie would be on trial. She certainly seems to have an odd fascination
with children.

If they had proper evidence, he would have been convicted. This is the
second major trial, the first was settled and the public said he was
guilty and if it had gone to trial the jury would have declared him
guilty.

So he took it to the jury.
This one went all the way.

The public says he's still guilty, based entirely on the
sensationalism of the media.

As it stands now, regardless of what the media chooses to portray, he
is innocent and is not a child molester as far as the courts are
concerned.
