> But all this talk of "I was in the service" is totally futile, as is all > this talk of WW1 & WW2... remember that until Sept 11, America > was untouched > by any major "war" ever fought... civil war not included, oh and Japanese > Balloon bombs... wooh scary.
True, the thought of attacks on American soil has many people waving the flag that would not otherwise do so, but in our war on terrorism you must remember that this is not the first incident that has happened on American soil. I have to disagree on the "untouched" part of your statement. I would have to say that the bombing of the Federal building in Oklahoma City was an act of terrorism. I would have to say that the previous bombing of the World Trade Center was also an act of terror. Personally, we have thousands die on American highways every day and they don't get the coverage that these poor souls did. We're fighting a battle and there will be casualties, even from such a horrible thing as friendly fire. What I find amazing is that we've been on the aggressive for this long and have a total of 3 accounted casualties on "our side". Given our level of involvement, there could be so many more.
