A live email address is worth it to them. Lets say they write up the site to harvest emails. They spread it out to a few places as a 'fun' thing and hope that it'll spread. If 5,000 people take the survey that's 5,000 email addresses that they can sell to spammers. Lets say the addresses go for a buck a pop. Thats $5k. Not bad for very little work. Of those 5,000 people, if 1% of them buy something from the resultant spam thats 50 people. Lets say the product is $100. The spammer breaks even with no profit. If they send multiple emails targetted on the interests of the people then that 1% goes up to 5% or 10%. Targeted marketing. You know, the more I think about it the more it looks like a real money making proposition. Damn those evil thoughts.
